What is LED Lighting?
In the last 10 years, there has been a completely different development in lighting. With LED Lighting technology, which is very different from the light sources used for years, a high level of energy savings is achieved, and the control of lighting fixtures has become much easier.
In this article, while answering frequently asked questions about LED Lighting technology, we guide your transition to this technology.
Basically the word LED means Light Emitting Diode. This technology has a much lower energy consumption compared to incandescent lamps and has a much longer life. Its much smaller dimensions allow incandescent lamps to be used in different areas and forms with a lower operating temperature.
Features of LED Lighting
Efficiency: Longer life than traditional incandescent bulbs. Its efficiency is 5 times higher. Bulbs made with LED consume between 3 and 12 watts of electricity
Brightness: The brightness value is measured in lumens, not watts.
Cost: LEDs have a higher initial investment cost. However, its long life is more advantageous due to its lower maintenance cost.
Design: The compact size of LEDs makes them an ultra-flexible design element that allows designers and manufacturers to create shapes, silhouettes and technologies that were not possible before.
Low Temperature: LEDs convert energy into light at a higher rate. The heat generated is much less.
Mercury Free: No mercury is used in the manufacture of LEDs.
Dimmable: LEDs did not have the ability to be dimmed when they first came out. Now, the amount of light can be easily adjusted.
Advantages of LED Lighting
Efficiency of LED Lighting
Generally, it is claimed to be highly efficient in new technology products. However, this is the case with LEDs. To produce the same amount of light, it consumes 1/5 of the energy compared to old technology bulbs.
Color Temperature Range of LEDs
LEDs offer color temperature options. Each product has a Color Temperature (CCT) corresponding to a specific Kelvin (K) temperature scale. The lower the Kelvin value, the warmer and closer to yellow the light is. As it rises, it becomes cold and bluish.
Thus, it has a wide usage area.
What is CRI?
CRI is a quantitative measure of how accurately an LED bulb renders colors compared to a natural Light source. Bearing in mind that an incandescent bulb has a CRI of 100, an LED with a CRI of 80 is fine. A CRI of 80 to 90 percent is the most common LED CRI ratings you can find on the market today. However, CRI is not always an accurate indicator, as some LEDs with low CRIs of 20-30 percent can produce clearer and more precise white light than a 90% rating. That’s why the CRI rating isn’t as important as the wattage and color temperature.
How long do LEDs really last?
LED has a long lifespan with most of the options available rated for at least 20,000 hours of operation. Some brands are pushing this limit, and many offer 30,000 to 50,000 hours as standard; This means you can choose a lifespan that suits your needs. A fixture used only a few hours a day can last 20+ years, while some fixtures left on all day and night wear out faster.
