Lighting Ideas for Low Ceilings

In architecture, it is not always possible to have a high ceiling where you can install the lighting fixtures as you wish. Spaces with low ceilings need lighting at least as much as spaces with high ceilings.

Lighting fixtures that have the same effect of high ceilings are now produced. If you want to create this effect in your spaces, you will find tips in our article.

Pendants and Chandeliers for Low Ceilings

There is no rule that pendant lighting fixtures cannot be used in low ceilings, there are just a few things to consider.

Be careful where you hang the fixture

Let’s say you want to use a ceiling height of 2.5 meters and a pendant luminaire in your kitchen. The fixture will need to be in an area that you do not pass under. A fixture standing on the kitchen island, bar, sink or dining table will not prevent the transition and will allow you to create layers of lighting.

Consider options other than chandeliers

You may not be able to use classical chandeliers to add ambiance to dining rooms. Instead, you can use linear fixtures that match your ceiling. Multiple pendant linear fixtures above the dining table are another way to achieve the high-impact look.

Adjust height

You can easily adjust the height of the luminaire by using pendant systems that you can adjust the height during installation.

Recessed Lighting

A natural choice for a standard height ceiling is recessed lighting. It is typically designed and used in such a way that it seamlessly becomes part of the general space and almost disappears. But there is another way to use it.

Decorative recessed lighting, including colored glass, faux stucco and even crystal, gives you options to create the drama and design you seek without leaving any gaps.

With the further development of LED, recessed lighting can go into previously unusable areas. With LED trims that require no enclosures for installation and only 2 to 3 inches of clearance, low ceilings now have plenty of room for high-quality, high-design lighting.

Recessed lighting can be intimidating, but hiring a professional will ensure you get the type, size, and placement that’s right for your space. See the Recessed Lighting Buying Guide for more information.

ceiling fans

Whether functional or decorative, sometimes a room just requires a ceiling fan. Bedrooms and living rooms are spaces where the breeze is appreciated, although not usually necessary. Accurate measurement is essential when purchasing a fan for a 2.5 meter ceiling.
