What is Linear Lighting

Linear lighting is lighting that is generally of an elongated shape used along a linear line. It can be easily used to illuminate large areas due to the high angle of the light and the fact that they can be attached end to end.

The Development of Linear Lighting

In the early days of the 1950s, linear lighting began with the use of fluorescent fixtures in industrial areas. As designers realized the efficiency of this type of lighting, linear lighting began to be applied more widely in a variety of facilities such as offices, retail spaces, showrooms, gas stations, homes and even elevators.

The biggest problem that this linear system created was that the socket and fluorescent heads were dark at the beginning of the line.

In the early 2000s, linear LED lighting surpassed fluorescent tubes in popularity after its release. Unlike fluorescent tubes, LEDs allowed continuous and smooth lighting lines due to the compact size of the LEDs.

Linear Lighting Luminaire Types

  1. Surface Mounted Linear Lighting
  2. Recessed Linear Lighting
  3. Suspended Linear Lighting

Surface Mounted Linear Lighting

It is one of the most traditional methods in linear lighting. In this type of mounting, the product is mounted on ceilings and walls. Since it is an old application, it is known as the classic application. The reason why it is still a very popular application style is that linear lighting fixtures are constantly updated in terms of style and functionality. Especially our LED Linear luminaires are more compact than ever.

Surface lighting is perfect for areas with open ceilings and areas where there is little space between the structural ceiling and the sunroof and where it is impossible to install recessed linear lighting.

Recessed Linear Lighting

It is used in more elegant and minimalist designs compared to surface-mounted application. Offices can be used for ambient lighting, as light channels on the ceiling, embedded in the wall or even on the floor.

Because the lights are “embedded” in ceilings, walls and floors, these luminaires offer clean, uninterrupted lines. The absence of protruding cables also creates a safer environment for busy and crowded offices.

Suspended Linear Lighting

Suspended linear lighting is a lighting channel connected to the ceiling with pendant wires. It is often used as ambient lighting. It is used in areas with high ceilings to create a sense of depth and dimension. Suspended linear lightings can be made in different patterns and lengths, making the illuminated area unique.

Where Can Linear Lighting Fixtures Be Mounted?

Now that we have examined the three main types of luminaires, we can look at where they can be applied: in offices, schools and even kitchens.

in offices

Linear lighting for offices is one of the most accurate lighting solutions. They are useful and can provide a sufficient amount of lighting to every corner of the space. Especially in open offices and home office areas, pendant luminaires are the most suitable solution. In addition, by using these products, you provide the necessary brightness and color lighting to support the productivity of the employees.

in kitchens

Suspended linear products can be used easily in kitchens, especially on dining tables and island sections. When you want to provide aesthetic and sufficient lighting, you can add a layer to the lighting with luminaires suspended at different heights.

in schools

In schools, which are an example of general usage areas, a linear-linear lighting may be appropriate because the buildings generally consist of corridors and classrooms. From hallways to stairs to inside classrooms, you can use linear pendant lighting.
