Examination room lighting in hospitals should meet the needs of the physician and at the same time be as pleasant as possible for the patient. It is easier to ensure uniformity by using fixtures in the same color tone throughout the examination and treatment.
Regarding the photometric and electrotechnical properties of portable inspection luminaires, international standards require a color rendering of at least 85 CRI and luminaires with a color temperature between 3,000 K and 6,700 K are preferred.
Lighting values for adjacent areas or rooms should not vary by more than a factor of 10. Otherwise, additional compliance areas with relevant lighting should be provided to create an appropriate compliance time for people moving between areas.
If special examination room lighting is required, e.g. for general ophthalmological examinations such as external eye examinations or vision tests, as well as for treatment rooms where only very low lighting levels are permitted depending on the type of examination. The specific adjustment of the lighting level can be realized by switching, control, regulation or a combination of these.
